Potential secondary effects of <scp>in?stream</scp> wood structures installed for natural flood management: A conceptual model

چکیده

The use of in-stream wood is one the most commonly employed natural flood management (NFM) techniques. effectiveness NFM structures in reducing risks (i.e., their “primary” effect) has been relatively well documented. However, additional or “secondary” effects on other processes have not fully evaluated. These secondary can be inferred by reviewing previous studies that scrutinized accumulations artificial constructed for purposes than NFM. degree contact with base flows and stream bed provides a broad classification structures. Having considered similarities between types, it suggested following geomorphic are common to all types structures: pool formation; accumulation clasts immediately upstream; buffering against coarsening; bank erosion, causing channel widening formation floodplain channels. changes contribute heterogeneity, potentially creating new niches aquatic organisms such as macroinvertebrates. Moreover, may retain benthic accidentally flushed away during events, serving sources colonists phases recovery. Geomorphic induced also spatial variation rates biogeochemical processing. Accumulation fine sediments some areas provide more surfaces attachment organic matter micro-organisms, hence increasing metabolic rates. Stream scouring lead sediment instability, suppressing growth micro-organisms This article categorized under: Water Life > Conservation, Management, Awareness Science Extremes Engineering Sustainable

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Development of a conceptual model for asthma management system in primary care

Introduction: Asthma is uncontrolled in more than half of asthma patients due to inadequate and incorrect management. The main reasons for inadequate management are non-adherence, inadequate knowledge of a general practitioner about patientchr('39')s clinical condition, and not following asthma management guidelines The purpose of this study was to develop a conceptual model for the asthma mana...

A Mathematical Model for Flood Protection

Many regions in the world are protected against flooding by a dike, which may be either natural or artificial. We deal with a model for finding the optimal heights of such a dike in the future. It minimizes the sum of the investments costs for upgrading the dike in the future and the expected costs due to flooding. The model is highly nonlinear, nonconvex, and infinite-dimensional. Despite this...

A growth model for RNA secondary structures

A hierarchical model for the growth of planar arch structures for RNA secondary structures is presented, and shown to be equivalent to a tree-growth model. Both models can be solved analytically, giving access to scaling functions for large molecules, and corrections to scaling, checked by numerical simulations of up to 6500 bases. The equivalence of both models should be helpful in understandi...
